9 Healthy Habits for Flawless Skin
Here at eb5 we specialize in beautiful, younger-looking skin, and we want to help you create and maintain habits that lead to the most flawless skin of your life. They say it takes roughly 21 days for something to become a habit. Seems simple enough. Work these into your day again and again and again and start to see your skin respond positively.
1. Get enough sleep
Sleep deprivation makes your body produce more of the stress hormone, cortisol. Heightened levels of cortisol create stress and inflammation in the skin, leading to dull skin, breakouts and even accelerates aging skin. Clocking around eight hours of sleep per night will keep this stress hormone in check. So essentially, your skin needs rest, too; it renews itself when you sleep. What a great excuse to hit the snooze button!
2. Drink lots and lots of water
Doctors and health experts will never stop telling us to drink more water… and for good reason. Drinking 6-8 glasses of water per day (or more) helps flush out toxins in your body, and your skin, allowing it to clear up and be more plump and glowy.
3. Wear SPF no matter what
The sun does serious and irreversible damage to skin. Primarily, it ages skin like crazy! One of the single most important things you can do for your skin is protect it from UVA/UVB rays with adequate SPF moisturizer. You can wear SPF protection under makeup!
4. Find the right moisturizer
Okay, so SPF is super important, but finding the best moisturizer for your skin is right there with it in terms of skin priorities. Whether you have dry, oily, aging, or acne-prone skin, moisturizer is truly key to beautiful skin. This moisturizer is formulated with just five simple ingredients and people with all skin types LOVE having it as part of their skincare regimen.
5. Always remove makeup before bed
Sleeping in makeup can be horrendous to your skin. I’m not exaggerating. Sleeping in oily makeup and unwashed oily skin clogs pores and doesn’t allow your skin the fresh renewal it needs. If you’re hoping for younger-looking skin, sleeping in makeup gives you the exact opposite. Makeup settles in fine lines and wrinkles and makes them worse, quite quickly in fact. So no matter how tired you are after a full day, take the time to take off the makeup.
6. Limit your sugar intake
We might hop on the “no-sugar train” in efforts to slim down and lost weight, but doing so for the sake of your skin is not a bad idea, either. When you eat sugar, insulin levels spike and inflammation occurs throughout the body. Inflammation breaks down collagen and elastin in the skin (the compounds that allow skin to be firm, stable and younger-looking) making it wrinkle, age and sag. This inflammation also irritates acne and skin issues like rosacea, so limiting it and avoiding that inflammation will allow skin to remain calm.
7. Don’t mess with blemishes
Messing with and picking blemishes is a big No-No! It’s hard to resist sometimes, but picking at acne pimples and bumps spreads bacteria that creates more blemishes. Not exactly what you were going for, huh? Not only that, but it can lead to redness and scarring. Hands off!
8. Get active to reduce stress
Remember that stress we mentioned earlier? There are several ways to reduce and eliminate it, leading to prettier, more flawless skin. Exercise is one of the those ways. Increased blood flow also increases oxygen to skin cells, delivers nutrients and helps cells reenergize and renew. Get moving!
9. Eat clean, real foods
What you put on your skin is equally important as what you put in your body. You use products that deliver vitamins and nutrients to skin, but the things we eat are broken down and delivered to skin from within. Filling up on fruits, veggies, complex carbs and proteins will deliver more of what your skin needs to be healthy and beautiful. Trade potato chips for colorful vegetables or candy and chocolate for yummy fruits. You are what you eat; same goes for your skin!
