How to Fade Age Spots

What are age spots?

Age spots, often called “liver spots” are physically dark spots on the skin caused by the sun. Typically, individuals older than 50 experience age spots, but they can even appear before then. Most are harmless and non-cancerous and never require medical treatment. But many people choose to treat and lighten them for cosmetic reasons.

What do they look like?

Age spots are flat, oval shaped spots on the skin. They can appear on the face, backs of hands, chest or any area of the body that is exposed to the sun and experiences sun damage, and are more likely in light-skinned individuals. They can be the size of a freckle or larger, and sometimes, they appear in clusters making them seem larger.

Where do they come from?

Age spots appear due to overactive pigment in cells, and may appear on areas of the body that have had years of repeated sun exposure. UV light from the sun accelerates the production of melanin, and melanin clumps together over time in high concentrations creating age spots. While sun exposure over time contributes to the development of age spots, the use of tanning beds and artificial UV lights can accelerate their development, too.

Are age spots permanent?

Age spots don’t have to be permanent. While they do represent significant sun damage accumulated over time, they can be treated and faded with the right products and/or professional procedures.

How can they be treated?

Age spots can be treated with products that lighten and fade their appearance. eb5 Age Spot Treatment is one such treatment product. They can also be removed with chemical peels, laser treatment or microdermabrasion. These procedures may be easier, but are certainly less cost effective.

Creams and age spot treatments like eb5 Age Spot Treatment work as skin-lightening formulas. Our Age Spot Treatment works to fade age spots with 2% Hydroquinone, the ingredient known for lightening skin. It also includes ingredients like argan oil, vitamin E and vitamin B5 to moisturize and nourish the skin at the same time. While products like this one take discipline and repeated daily applications to see results, they can effectively fade age spots and for much less than the aforementioned medical procedures.

How to use eb5 Age Spot Treatment

Apply Age Spot Treatment after cleansing and toning to areas with visibly dark, age spots. Follow with eb5 moisturizer.

During and after treating age spots, take extra precaution against further sun damage. Wear SPF protection whenever you head outdoors and avoid the sun at its strongest hours, between 10 am and 2 pm.
